Zioptan Dosage

The recommended dose of Zioptan for the treatment of high eye pressure is one drop in each affected eye once daily in the evening. This amount is standard for everyone, regardless of the severity of your symptoms. Do not use these eye drops more than once a day, as doing so can actually make the medication less effective.

An Introduction to Dosing With Zioptan

There is only one standard dosage for Zioptan® (tafluprost ophthalmic solution), regardless of the severity of your eye condition. As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

What Is the Recommended Zioptan Dosage?

The recommended Zioptan dose for treating high eye pressure (ocular hypertension) or open angle glaucoma is one drop into the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening. Interestingly, using Zioptan more often than once a day actually makes it less effective.

This medication comes in single-use containers. Each container has enough medicine for one dose (for one or both eyes). If you are treating just one eye, do not save the remaining solution for the next dose. Although this may seem wasteful, this medicine does not contain any preservatives and will not remain sterile after it is opened.

General Information on Using Zioptan

Some considerations to keep in mind about your dosage include the following:

  • This medication comes in the form of eye drops. It is typically used once a day in the evening.

  • Always wash your hands thoroughly before using Zioptan.

  • Gently pull your lower eyelid down with a finger (most people find that their middle finger works best) to create a small pocket. Without actually touching the dropper to the eye, squeeze the bottle to place one drop into the lower eyelid.

  • If you use other eye medications, make sure to separate Zioptan and your other eye drops by at least five minutes.

  • For the medication to work properly, it must be used as prescribed.

  • If you are unsure about anything related to your dosage or Zioptan dosing in general, please talk to your healthcare provider or pharmacist.
