Trusopt Dosage

If you are using Trusopt to lower eye pressure, your healthcare provider will likely recommend applying one drop in the affected eye(s) three times a day. If this amount is not sufficient to reduce your eye pressure, you may need to add another medication to your treatment regimen. Increasing the dosage of Trusopt is generally not recommended.

An Introduction to Dosing With Trusopt

There is only one standard dose of Trusopt® (dorzolamide hydrochloride), regardless of your age, weight, or the severity of your glaucoma. As is always the case, do not adjust your dosage unless your healthcare provider specifically tells you to do so.

Standard Trusopt Dosage

The recommended dose of Trusopt for treating glaucoma or high eye pressure is one drop in the affected eye(s) three times daily. It is generally not recommended to increase the dosage beyond the standard recommended amount, even if your eye pressure remains high.
If this dose does not adequately lower the pressure in the eye, your healthcare provider may add another type of glaucoma medication.

General Information on Using Trusopt

Considerations to keep in mind during treatment with Trusopt include the following:
  • Soft contact lenses can absorb the preservative in these eye drops. In order to avoid this problem, you must remove the lenses before using Trusopt and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
  • If you use other eye drops in addition to Trusopt, make sure to wait at least 10 minutes between using Trusopt and another eye medication.
  • In order to prevent contamination of the drops, do not touch the tip of the dropper to any surface, including the surface of the eye or the skin.
  • For Trusopt to work properly, it must be used as directed.
  • If you are unsure about anything related to Trusopt dosing, please talk with your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist.
