Timoptic Side Effects

Burning and stinging are the most common side effects reported with all types of Timoptic. Problems that are rare (occurring in less than 1 percent of people using the eye medication) but possible include nausea, insomnia, and drowsiness. While most side effects of this drug are mild, some are potentially serious and require immediate medical attention, including anxiety, rapid weight gain, and hallucinations.

An Introduction to Timoptic Side Effects

As with any medicine, Timoptic^® (timolol maleate) can cause side effects. However, not everyone who takes the medication will have problems. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or can easily be treated by you or your healthcare provider.

Possible Side Effects of Timoptic

Timoptic has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials in which the side effects of a group of people taking the drug are documented. In these studies, the most common side effects of all types of Timoptic (occurring in about one in every eight people) were burning and stinging.

Additionally, for Timoptic-XE gel-forming solution, the most common side effect (occurring in about one in every three people) was temporary blurring. This blurring lasted from 30 seconds up to five minutes.

Other common side effects with Timoptic (occurring in 1 to 5 percent of people) included:

Pain
Pink eye
Eye crusting
Feeling like something is stuck in the eye
Itching
Watery eyes
Headaches
Dizziness
Upper respiratory infections (such as the common cold).
