Alphagan Medication Information

If you have certain eye conditions related to high eye pressure, your healthcare provider may prescribe Alphagan® (brimonidine tartrate). This medicine comes in the form of an eye drop and is approved for treating open-angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension.

There is only one standard dosage of Alphagan -- one drop in the affected eye(s) three times daily. Although most people tolerate this drug well, these eye drops are not appropriate for everyone. Make sure your healthcare provider has complete information on your medical history and what medications you are taking before starting treatment with Alphagan.

You may not be able to safely use this eye medication if you have certain medical conditions, such as heart disease, depression, or low blood pressure. Potential side effects include headaches, dry mouth, and eye redness.
